Michaela

Michaela Sidloski is currently completing her PhD at the University of Saskatchewan in the city of Saskatoon, which is located on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. Her educational background is in regional and urban planning, and her research combines intersectional feminism, GIS, and transdisciplinary research methods. She uses these tools in her work with rural, remote, and Indigenous communities to co-develop place-based climate change adaptation planning processes that are built from local knowledge and consider how social identity factors like gender, culture, or socioeconomic status affect how people experience and respond to climate change impacts. Her PhD research was conducted in partnership with Tsáá Çhé Ne Dane (Doig River First Nation, Treaty 8 Territory), funded by the SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier Doctoral Scholarship and the Smart Prosperity Institute. She supports similar work through her role as a Research Associate at The Resilience Institute. Michaela will join the TEST lab in 2026 as a Postdoctoral Associate. Her work will focus on how visuals can serve as boundary objects for bridging diverse knowledge systems, and how they can be used to support cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary collaborations for more effective and just climate adaptation at local levels.
