Chrishma

Chrishma is an international student from Sri Lanka with a background in environmental science and geography. She holds a BSc in Environmental Science and a Master’s in Environmental Management from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, as well as a Master’s in Geography from Virginia Tech in the United States. For her PhD, Chrishma is working on a community-collaborative project with the Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC), focusing on urban Indigenous food sovereignty in London, Ontario. Her research interests include Indigenous Peoples’ health and food systems, climate adaptation, and environmental sustainability. She currently holds the Equity and Diversity Social Science Doctoral Fellowship, which recognizes her commitment to inclusive, community-engaged research. As a non-Indigenous scholar, Chrishma recognizes her responsibility in contributing to a more equitable society where Indigenous communities can continue their traditions and ways of life. She has established community partnerships with Sri Lankan Indigenous communities (Vedda People) and is building emerging relationships with Shawi communities in Peru.
